Quality Fabrications puts every effort into living up to its name.

Entering the upholstered furniture market is no easy task, especially with well-known brands like La-Z-Boy dominating the industry. From the beginning, this family-run business kept their standards high. It would have been easy to lower them. Upholstered furniture can hide substandard materials beneath beautiful fabric. Quality Fabrications has to rely on slow, organic growth as people learn to appreciate their sofas over years of use.

They build every piece with a sturdy frame and guarantee the cushion foam for a lifetime. That commitment to quality is one reason the company’s 1800 Mission sofa has remained such a popular design.

Vernon began working at the business when he was just fourteen years old. Although he spent four years in construction, he eventually returned to woodworking. “It was in my blood,” he says. In 2015, he purchased the business and now oversees two shops—one specializing in woodworking and the other in upholstery.

Quality Fabrications also reflects the collaborative spirit of many Amish furniture builders. Another local furniture maker offered his family valuable advice when they were getting started, and today Vernon works closely with his brother-in-law, Daniel. As sales manager, Daniel calls customers each month to discuss floor models and learn what’s selling. Those conversations help the company respond quickly to changing styles and customer preferences. The team also makes itself available, answering customer calls until 8:00 p.m. EST.

Today, much of Quality Fabrications’ lineup features Mission and Shaker sofas—designs that fit well into their desire for the best quality. The Ohio Furniture Guild recognized this work and has featured their living room furniture in their Showcase House for the past three years.

Upholstered furniture can make Amish quality harder to recognize because so much of the workmanship is hidden beneath the fabric. Yet customers continue to return. Like many Amish businesses, Quality Fabrications has grown steadily by earning trust, delivering lasting quality, and refusing to lower its standards. As Vernon says, “It all comes down to what’s inside.”
