In a world where it seems like everyone is selling bedroom furniture and tables, David Weaver noticed something missing: no one was building wine cabinets.

After subcontracting for a larger company for a year, David wanted to branch out on his own—but he knew entering the furniture market would be challenging. Across his county, hundreds of Amish farmers were selling their cows and starting small woodshops. As a small builder, he needed to find a way to stand out. After attending a furniture show, he realized that few builders were creating small, specialty pieces. He designed a simple wine cabinet that didn’t take up much space and fit most budgets. That first design remains one of his most popular items today.

Without the Internet guiding his decisions, David admits it can be difficult to know what to develop next. Instead, he pays close attention to his customers. He studies custom orders, watches for patterns, and asks a simple question: What do people need right now?

That approach has shaped his business. David continues building the pieces customers need while taking risks on new ideas. In 2019, he introduced a coffee bar—one of those risks that quickly paid off. Customers discovered it was much more than a place for coffee. It could serve as a kitchen island, add storage and counter space, and create a gathering place in the home.

Now, D & N Wood Designs is expanding its definition of cabinetry. After years of building free-standing kitchen cabinets, customers began asking David to create custom kitchen cabinetry. Today, the company builds everything from high-end cabinetry for customers in other states to practical designs for local homes, including features like cookie tray pull-outs, trash pull-outs, and spice cabinet storage.

After nearly twenty years in the business, David has built more than a furniture company—he has built relationships, trust, and a reputation for craftsmanship. As he looks toward the future, he hopes to eventually pass the business on to his sons, who have already worked alongside him for more than ten years. His story is not about chasing trends; it is about paying attention, solving problems, and creating pieces that serve people well. Through hard work, careful listening, and a commitment to quality, David continues to build furniture—and a legacy—that will last.
